DIY Lotus Flowers to Brighten Your Days!!

We recently had the pleasure of attending Wanderlust Festival in Copper Mountain, CO. We wanted to make a statement so to decorate our tent we came up with a couple easy to-do, fun, bright ideas! We cut up sheets and sarongs into flowing panels, with a handful of them braided to add texture. Having this be our entrance was a welcoming and warming sight for visitors to come check out the latest Mika Wear! We also made a sign from a burlap grass sheet using acrylic paint. Both turned out wonderfully!

However, what made a big impact all around the tent, inside and out, were the Tissue Lotus Flowers we constructed...SO easy to do and great to travel with, (think if you’re going to a destination wedding or event some place...) Here, in just five easy steps...we will show you how to create these conversation starting flowers!

Tools: Tissue Paper, Scissors, One of the following: staples, wire, twine, or ribbon, and your handy hands!

Supplies

1.) Choose which color or colors your want your flower to be and what size. Make sure the tissue paper is all the same rectangular shape and that there are at least 5 sheets stacked together.

start folding

2.) Start folding it accordion style back and forth until you reach the end.

3.) When you reach the end, tie or staple the middle with whatever medium you chose...Then cut the ends in any shape you like. Rounded, spiked, one corner cut are all options.

4.) Fan out the accordion-folded-paper by pinching the bottom center with the fingertips of one hand (think of the paper fortune tellers you made as kid) while fanning out with the other.

pop up the sheets

5.) Keeping the bottom pinched with your fingertips, now use your free hand to take one layer at a time towards the center. Continue until all the layers are brought to the middle!
