Geode Cookies
Materials Needed:
- Sugar or Snickerdoodle cookie dough
- Royal Icing
- Zip lock bags for piping
- Plant derived food coloring
- Paintbrush
- Edible metallic gold glitter
Directions:
Step 1:
Bake your cookies. We were in a time crunch so ended up using a locally made Snickerdoodle Cookie Dough, Alpendough. SO good & guess what? It's plant-based. Vegan cookies for the WIN. Once baked, set aside to cool.
Step 2:
Make your Royal Icing! We really liked this recipe found via pinterest. A few of us on the team are vegan so subbed eggs with arrowroot powder.
Step 3:
Once your cookies have cooled gently tear off the edges to create a rough edge around the cookie. The more jagged, the more realistic they will look.
Step 4:
Prep your colors! We went with Pink, Blue & Yellow. Save aside a good amount of white icing to use as the base. Place colors individually into ziplock bags. Cut a very TINY tip. (Adjust as you see necessary)
Step 5:
Start decorating! Pipe white icing in a small circle in the center of the cookie. Pipe colored frosting around the perimeter. (Don’t be afraid to have it not be perfect looking). Take your paint brush and gently brush into the white. Add a white layer around this, repeat with the same color or different to mix it up. Keep going until satisfied.
Step 6:
Dip your paintbrush in water & then into the glitter. Paint along the rim & anywhere else you want to be extra sparkly.
Step 7:
Let cool before transferring! These babies are a bit delicate so allow a decent amount of time for all the frosting to set.
Step 8:
Snap your pinterest worthy pic of these gems & pat yourself on the back.
