DIY Ombre Mika
/Feeling Crafty? This DIY ombre effect is a SUPER easy & fun way to create a one of kind top. The idea for this came a few weeks back when a friend of mine told me she needed an artistic costume to go with her tan 10 inch furry platform boots (in case you were wondering, yes, she was on her way to Burning Man). I've been wanting to try painting on our clothes for a while so this presented the perfect opportunity to test it out. Here are a couple tips before you get started:
If you can't find fabric paint, no sweat. There is this amazing solution called GAC-900 by Golden. It turns acrylic paint INTO fabric paint. Is it water proof you ask? Well, I accidentally tested this out by leaving my freshly painted top out to dry outside. I momentarily forgot that I live in Colorado & 30 minutes later buckets of rain poured over my poor top. Luckily, the paint on the top didn't budge, proving that yes, it is indeed waterproof.
My last tip is that even if you think it's not working out, keep going. It really only pulls together at the end & if by chance you still aren't satisfied, SPLATTER away. This can camouflage any unwanted imperfections. At the bottom of the blog I posted a video clip on a way to splatter, however, if you have the space, get Maria Elena with it.
