bowl is exactly what you are looking for.
Everyone can build their own smoothie. Just throw your favorite fruits and veggies into a blender and Voila! However, I think we have all been in a smoothie crisis before. Smoothie Crisis: A situation where you put too much of one ingredient and not enough of another. Resulting in a nasty tasting smoothie.
Don’t get yourself in a smoothie crisis. Use our simple method and make a PERFECT smoothie or smoothie bowl.
Why did we choose the fruits and veggies we did? Because each one of these fruits have a VERY special role for your body post-workout.
Health Benefits:
-Banana: Carbohydrates. Banana’s are loaded with “good carbs” (carbs from fructose which means they quickly convert to usable energy). This gives your muscles their main source of energy; carbs. Fueling your muscles with good carbs will help prevent cramps.
-Berries: (strawberry, blackberry, blueberry) have antioxidants that can protect your cells against damage.
-Passion Fruit: Passion fruit is high in a lot of vitamins and minerals, as well as carbs and energy.
-Lemon: We’ve all heard the phrase “when life gives you lemons ______” ADD it to your smoothie!! Lemons are an amazing superfruit to add to a post workout snack, they: Hydrate, balance energy level, and prevent muscle soreness and injury.
-Kiwi: Kiwi’s are a powerhouse of nutrients. They have more vitamins and minerals per gram compared to any other fruit. Kiwi’s are packed with vitamin C, potassium, fibers, and antioxidants that help relieve muscle soreness.
-Spinach: Loaded with important vitamins and minerals to promote healthy and strong bones and muscles.
-Kale: Loaded with potassium. Potassium helps promote the break down of lactic acid in muscles before and after a workout, and is a great food to help prevent muscle soreness in the recovery process.
Ingredients:
1 yellow mango
2 large bananas
½ cup coconut milk (juice or water work also)
handful of spinach
handful of chard
handful of kale
½ of a ripe avocado
2 kiwis
1 package of strawberries
1 package of blackberries
1 package of blueberries
½ of a lemon (juice only)
1 passion fruit (optional)
cacao nibs (optional)
raw almonds (optional)
chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp hearts (optional)
Directions:
1. Just throw all of the ingredients into a blender and blend (adding more or less water until desired texture).
2. Put the blended freggies (yes- fruit and veggies blended together) in a glass or a bowl. Eat up!
- OR- If you want to make a fairy smoothie bowl like we did, separating the ingredients by color, blend each fruit/veggie with like colored fruit/veggies. For example we started with lemon, banana, and mango with a little bit of the coconut milk and blended them together. Then we poured that mixture into a cup and set it aside. Next, we did the same but with strawberries, kiwi, and passion fruit. Then, all of our greens, followed by our blackberries and blueberries (gently rinsing the blender after each color is ready).
Finally, we carefully poured in each color of our fairy bowl and added the toppings we thought would be best. Don't let us fool you, we had a base (our pink layer - blended strawberries, kiwi, and passion fruit)so that we could pour the different color layers easily on top.
