This guest post comes from Qoya Teacher Kaci Florez

Kaci is based in Sacramento, Ca where she holds classes, workshops, and one on one sessions. Kaci is co-leading a Qoya Retreat in Costa Rica April 9-16This retreat is for women only. All ages and movement levels are welcome.

What is Qoya?

Drawn from the wisdom of yoga, creative expression in dance, and the pleasure found in sensual movement - Qoya is a shift in consciousness that evolves the way we have been taught to move our bodies as women. Qoya helps women enjoy and revel in their feminine bodies. There are no levels such as beginner, intermediate, or advanced. There is but one level and one intention and that is to move in a way that feels good, and more specifically to move in a way that feels honest and true for you.

How to do Qoya:

Follow the flow of class, but most importantly follow the flow of your own body.

If it FEELS good, you’re doing it right.

SLOW down to FEEL more.

To experience the full beauty of who you are:

Speak what is true for you and be a witness for others doing the same.

Encourage one another to shine confidently!

Why do Qoya?

Through our movement we unite our body and mind, honor the interconnectedness in ourselves and our world, consciously create community, give rise to our intentions, encourage our desires to dance through us — and, thereby, nourish our soul. Also...

To access our inner Queen.

Qoya means Queen in Quechuan (an indigenous language used by shamans in South America). Not an emotionally distant bejeweled figure who holds a position of inherited power, but Queen that translates as “a female manifestation of higher consciousness.”

As we open our bodies we open our awareness, creativity, authenticity, vision, consciousness, compassion, gratitude, and wisdom.

Through Qoya we find the physical sensation of truth in our body; then allow that truth to be north on our compass.

Through movement we remember our true essence is wise, wild, and free!
